Run Nams and Springbocks

Summer 2010 welcomed me to Africa and I feel welcomed to welcome you to my snapshot memory.

I enjoyed Africa and had a lot of fun! I have seen a lot of things met very nice people and maybe I also learned something. As you can imagine it was hard to select the pictures to show you. But I hope you can enjoy them.

All shots were taken on digital medium

My last day in Germany, getting familiar wirth my new travel companion Canon.

The beginning of July or let me say the finals of the Worldcup 2010. As you can see, not the most exiting game.
But hanging out with my buddies back in Trier is always and will always be one of my favorite ways
to amuse and relax myself .

Abu Dhabi Airport, it was time to take a shot.

I don´t really know why, but during the flight the ball appeared in my backpack.

Capetown! Past nearly 24hours flight time first steps on african ground. Philine is still in pretty good shape!
My feet were swollen and my head was dia mackar.

Another shot on Capetown Airport.

The first night in the streets of Capetown.
Really nice place but not the weather we would acpect of "Africa" slightly more than 10 degrees. So after 37degrees in Germany this was really F.cking cold.

Warming our hands and bellys at Mr Pickwicks.

Sometimes also Mrs. Pickwicks.

The View to the backyard of our Guesthouse. On the left side you should see Table Mountain,
but is that really that interesting?

Let me itroduce you to our Beetle or as the Germans say Käfer. Great car and for good value.

Our first beach. Muizenberg Beach. Great waves plenty of space and pretty cool locals!

Little smokebreak on our way to Capepoint.

North East of Capepoint, the Pacific Coast. Cold water and a calm day...

So we had to move to the Atlantic coast the next morgning. Beautiful empty Beaches...

But as soon as you enter the water you forget about the beauty
you dive into roughness and not even 8 degrees water temerature.
Brrrrzzzzzz

So we decided wise and moved further to Namibia to have more time to surf in South African autumn
and forget about winter;) 24 Hours busdrive to Windhoek.

The Bus assistant delivered me a coffe, very good work!

Welcome to Windhoek!

Lina on our first evening in Windhoek!

We visited the Orphanage where Philine and Lina worked a couple of years ago the kids where to cute!

... not photograph them.

And they love to pose!

.....

Philine and Bubu, I hope thats the right name...

Drive-by shot.

Mr. T, really thats T. A cool guy I met while drinking with some friends of Philine, Lina and Ankarma.
I think I don´t have to comment the bizeps. The evening was really cool and the Nams proofed that
they know how to get wasted.

Another drive-by shot in Windhoek

Bye bye Windhoek!

Shake Shake whaaaat?

Our house at Okonguarri. We spend 2 Month in this beautiful place. No other house in a pretty far distance,
electricity until 9:30, and a lot of Bushmates sharing nature and house with us!
Philine and me had really good times there....

Nick, one of our clients. We always hanged out there and played and relaxed in the pool Area.

Gerry was down with us.

Philine and Cory, this shot was also taken in Okonguaries Pool Area.

Altus, one of our therapeuts with his little girl.

Max another Intern playing chess with one of our Germans...

Our first flat tire changing it is a quite recourseful work.

Special thanks to Gapes!

This is Okonguarris workshop from the outside, Philine took this shot. I had to give him a hand.

A squirrel, not the only one. Every morning when we had breakfast we gave them and the birds some bread.

The birds I talked about before.

As I told you, 9:30 we were out of electricity. As u can imagine our nights always looked pretty much like this

We had Sunday off and drove to Fingeflick Lounge, straight and nice place...

Here you can see Fingerflick.  Seems to be a huge sundial.

Eagles Nest up on a plateau of Fingerflick.

Here I went to the next proper supermarket in Otjiwarongo with the friday bus.
The only Bus! To get back I had to wait 4 hours and met Gerrit a guy from Germany
I met a month before in a guesthouse in Windhoek. He compained me for 3hours
until he got picked up. Waiting takes a big part of travelling Namibia;)

Triumphblar. One of the main symbols in Okonguarri. A place of remoteness, open space and creativity!

This bark is the rest of a 20000 years old tree. Its thin as Carton,
but still can Stand nearly every weather!

Same tree of an other perspective.

On our way to Ondangwa - Oshakati in Ovamboland. Tata was dirty but cleaning wouldn´t have made a difference.

The outside of the "Kral" we slept in.

Women on their way to cross the border to Angola. The boarderline is 15m behind me.

International Driving School, yeahhh, looks realy trustworthy.

Philine is not different from all the other Ladys, you ask if they wanna eat something and suprisingly they say no.
But when u bring your food they are going to eat it straight away....

Breakfast Time!

Loallen in the trunk of Ankarmas company car.

Because the company car was not big enough, we also had to load our Tata to help Ankarma setting up on the "Fair Trade" Philine really knew how to lift tables up on the Tata:)

Finally finished loading. And it also worked out to transport it to its final destination.

After 700km drive back to Okonguarry we arrived on the final road just in time.
Driving at night ist quite hard because of all the Catle, Kudus, Spring Bocks, Oraks ... are permanently
crossing the "road".

Our patrolstation

Shot has been taken on one of our tracks wit the patients. Who is Who?

The leopard of Ina. really nice animal, a quite calm for a cat.  oO

First clouds past nearly 2 months. Looked good, but dind´t have an effect on the climate.

Uncle Mike. I won´t comment his storry.

Some workers building a laundry in Okonguarries Bush.

Uncle Mike, no he is not drunken. Just acting in one of our plays. He deserves an Oscar for this.

Giraffe!

Ostrich...

Sunrise in Etosha National Park!

Zebra... i won´t comment the next 3 pics they speak for themselfs..

Also in Etosha, driving into the salt pan.

I call this picture suicidal tree. It´s its own root and also pretty tight.

We finished our internship and moved to the coast. Swakop, Namibia.
When you see this sign you could think it´s still Süd-West Afrika.

There you can see the lighthouse....

Hitchhiking into the dessert. A shoe seller with his family gave us a lift in his bus.

Short stop at the harbour of Whalfish-Bay.

Finally we arrived in the dessert and climbed Dune 7.

On our way back we met Lina. Yes its mobilephone commercial.

Hitching in a Truck back to Swakopmund, weather was not the best but quite impressive.

Back in Windhoek. Mafia? Streetgang? Commercial?

Here I´m getting my dreadz done in Zoo Park.

My three buddys from Zim. From right to left; Takunda and Naty. Both helped rolling my dreadz. Unfortunatly I forgot the name of the third guy on the left. But he was really funny:)

Zoo-Park

Welcome back to South Africa!

One of the best places to have a coffee in Capetown!

Random Supermarket

That was our second  Beetle (Käfer).... a little bit more powerful and less noisy than the first one:)

The last 5 days we spend in Kommtjie , in the house of a really nice Lady. Crazy times, I can tell you.
The house was right there on your left in Surf Way! 30 seconds to beeing ready to paddle in.

Our first Trainride in Africa, it was on our last day.
We brought back the beetle and we had to take the Train from Capetown back to Surf-Way for our last sunset surf.
As u can see our mood was not the best, our little Käfer was gone our Trip was coming to an end
surfing was going to be far away and the weather was just getting really warm.
